Michael’s Arts & Crafts has a good supply of fine art supplies. If you venture closer to Boston & Cambridge, Blick or Artist & Craftsman are great options. Online: Blick, Jerry’s Artarama, ASW, Artist & Craftsman
Drawing:
1 drawing pad - Strathmore brown for Drawing - 11" x 14" or larger
HB drawing pencils
1 pkg. soft vine charcoal
1 kneaded eraser
1 chamois cloth
1-2 blending stumps
Oil Painting:
1 small pad of palette paper
palette knife (not Liquitex brand)
1 roll Viva paper towels
small container/jar with lid for water
roll of 1" or smaller painter's tape
box or other container for transporting wet paintings
Brushes: (for water mixable oils: synthetic, stiff bristles-no natural hog bristle which become limp in water; students using traditional oils can use synthetic and natural hog bristle brushes)
Suggested brands for water mixable oils: Firenze (green handle) from Michaels, Princeton 6300, American Painter, Winsor Newton “Artisan” line, Simmons “Titanium", Simmons "Sapphire"-softer bristle brush for painting "wet on wet." Brush Shapes: rounds, brights and filberts, sizes 2, 4, 6, 1-2 of each. Students using traditional oils can also use Simmons "Signet" or other comparable hog bristle brushes.
Canvas/Painting Supports:
1 pad of Frederix canvas paper 12 x16 inches or smaller
4-5 Additional canvas panels or stretched canvas: size 6x8” to 11x14
Pigments/Colors: Student grade Basic Set (Winsor Newton’s Artisan-water soluble line - or other comparable water mixable oil brands (Georgian, Holbein Duo). Not Reeves or Marie’s. Students can also use traditional oils and will need to bring odorless mineral spirits such as Turpenoid in the blue/white container, not turpentine or Turpenoid Natural.
